Attic Insulation Salem, Oregon
Attic insulation is the highest-payback upgrade a Salem home can make. Warm air rises, finds every gap in settled loose fill or aging batts, and escapes through the roof while your furnace runs to replace it.
How a Retrofit Attic Install Works
We start with a free assessment: existing insulation, ventilation, moisture signs and the R-value your home actually needs. On install day the crew masks and preps the space, sprays an even, continuous layer across the roof deck or attic floor, and leaves the attic clean. Most residential attics are done in a single day.
What It Costs
Attic spray foam is priced by area, foam type and depth. Open cell is the usual choice for Oregon roof decks; closed cell earns its place where moisture or structure matter most. Every quote is free and itemized, so you can compare line by line before deciding.
Serving Salem and Keizer Attics
We handle retrofit attic work across Salem and Keizer, from mid-century homes near downtown to newer builds past the parkway. Ask about pairing the attic with crawl space insulation for a sealed envelope top to bottom. Call (971) 299-7076 or request your free estimate below.
Where a Willamette Valley Attic Loses Its Money
The climate here is mild and wet rather than extreme, which misleads people into thinking the attic matters less. It matters differently. The heating season is long, so small continuous losses accumulate, and the dominant path is not conduction through insulation but air moving through gaps at the ceiling plane: around recessed lights, at top plates, through plumbing penetrations and an unsealed attic hatch. Material lying above those gaps slows heat transfer while leaving the air exchange untouched.
Moisture Is the Other Half of the Problem
Warm indoor air carries moisture, and where it escapes into a cold attic that moisture condenses on the underside of the roof sheathing. Over a long damp Oregon winter this is a building-condition issue as much as a comfort one. Sealing the ceiling plane and getting the ventilation right is what addresses it. An attic can hold the full rated depth of insulation and still have a moisture problem, because depth was never what controlled it.
Retrofit, and What Comes Out First
On an existing house the question of removal comes before the question of product. Material that is damp, settled well below its rated depth, rodent-contaminated or degraded should come out rather than be covered, because anything laid over it inherits the problem. Where the existing insulation is dry and sound, topping up is often the better value and we will say so instead of quoting a full clean-out.
What You Should Be Able to See at the End
Depth measured and photographed where loose material was installed. Consistent thickness across the roof deck where foam was applied, including the awkward runs at the eaves where coverage is easiest to let slip. The attic hatch sealed and insulated, since it is a hole in the ceiling people routinely forget. Penetrations sealed before anything was laid over them. If none of that can be shown afterwards, there is no way to know what was installed.
Questions
Common questions
Is attic insulation worth it in Oregon?
Yes. The attic is where most Oregon homes lose the most conditioned air, so it is usually the highest-payback area to insulate.
Do you remove the old attic insulation first?
Where the old material is settled, damp or damaged, it comes out before the new insulation goes in, and we quote that step up front.
How long does an attic project take?
Most residential attics are completed in a single day.
